Q. Are Ugg boots still in fashion to wear this fall?

A.Ugg boots are still a great fashion item, for all those that already own them. They surely deserve to get the money’s worth by pulling them out again this fall. However, I wouldn’t recommend in investing in a pair this year since so many other companies have created their own knock off versions. If you still want to get the look that a pair of Uggs might bring to an outfit then try out one of the lower cost look alikes available at Target, Marshalls or other retailers. This way when the company launches an updated pair you can get those early and enjoy the full life of the Ugg trend.

Q.I'm 38, short, and blonde. My 20 reunion is coming and I'm having a fashion crisis. It's a casual atmosphere so jeans are my first choice. I want to look younger, put together, and a bit sexy. I have big arms so tanks are out of the question! Any advice on what to wear?

A. In most cases jeans are an acceptable item for a casual affair but in this case you want to make a lasting impression. You can never be too cautious, in some situations casual usually means business casual so you don’t want to run the risk of being under dressed (Nightmare!). My recommendation is a great pair of pants or a skirt with a fun color top that you would wear to dinner or dancing and layer that look with a cut away blazer in a cotton, denim or tweed and a cute pair of stilettos. Make the look extra stylish by adding a brooch to your lapel or your belt buckle but most importantly have fun!

  Q. My cousin is getting married this fall (Labor Day weekend to be exact). I have purchased a black dress that I thought would be perfect for the occasion. However, my mom is appalled that I would want to wear black to this wedding. As she puts it, a wedding is to be a "happy" event and she additionally feels that black is seasonably inappropriate. Is black inappropriate for that time of year? Is it offensive to wear black to a wedding?

A.Your mother is right on this one, wearing black is sure to say you have a dark cloud over your head. It is inappropriate to wear black to a wedding unless it’s an evening or black tie affair. Besides, Labor Day weekend may be your last chance to show off your great summer colors so don’t let it go to waste.
